Many Parkland residents are aware of the story of Parkland resident Adam Fiorello, who is fighting a very rare form of cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma. Unfortunately, his cancer has spread, and there is no cure. I work with Adam’s dad at RE/MAX ParkCreek and have seen the strength of not only the Fiorello family, but the love and support of The City of Parkland, Florida. Adam is a true hero. For the past two years, Adam, who turned 22 yesterday, has endured many rounds of chemotherapy and radiation treatments.
I personally see first hand while working with Adam’s dad the struggle and commitment of never giving up for a cure! Hundreds of supports came out to Parkland’s City Hall last night to show their love and support for Adam Fiorello and his family. In fact, Major League Baseball Allstar Anthony Rizzo, also a Parkland resident who grew up in the city, came to show his support along with Florida Panthers Brandon Pirri, Nick Bjugstad, and Alex Petrovic. Parkland Mayor Michael Udine said, “It was an extremely powerful night at Parkland City Hall tonight. The biggest crowd I have ever seen at City Hall.”
During this emotional evening, I immediately realized how truly special it is to call Parkland, Florida home for my family. The entire City of Parkland came together for one of its own who lived and grew up in our city. Adam Fiorello is Parkland. He went to Parkland schools, played sports at all of the city’s parks and he, and his family, are very involved in the community. Also, his father coached many youth Parkland sports teams that Adam played on. Nights like last evening show the true meaning of why Parkland is so special: Family!
Adam’s mom, Heidi Fiorello, was very thankful for the turnout. “Thank you Parkland. The humanity of this community is awesome. And this is why we moved here to raise our boys with a city of substance……Humanity..Love…compassion…….. Strength. Parkland made my children, Adam Fiorello and Nick Fiorello, who they are today. Parkland helped make these boys very nice young men—- thank you City of Parkland.Thank you for supporting the cause of educating our world about the undeserved community of pediatric cancer,” said Heidi.
Like Mayor Udine and Heidi Fiorello, I was taken back by the enormous support and turnout last night. The Fiorello’s are exactly why is it so amazing to live in Parkland! Our city help turn her two children into men. Last night also showed how a community can come together for one another in time of need. I am a proud Parkland homeowner and I am Adam Strong!
